At My Greek Table with Kelly Michelakis
Cooking on the Bay is delighted to welcome guest Greek Cook, Kelly Michelakis from the Hellenic Odyssey. Kelly is a passionate Greek home cook with a proud heritage. The class is fully hands-on starting at our usual time of 8.45am, with Greek mountain tea with honey, Greek coffee and loukoumi, also known as Turkish delight and a Walnut Pie, a rich, moist walnut sponge cake.
You will learn how to prepare traditional authentic dishes that you won’t commonly find in a Greek restaurant. Instead, it is food that you would expect to eat in the kitchen of a Greek family home.
There will be no ordinary souvlaki on the recipe cards for this class. Instead you will learn to make recipes that celebrate the unique cuisine of Crete including Batzarosalata, a beetroot dip, Fava, yellow split pea dip, Kalitsounia, cheese pies, made using handmade filo, Cretan Dakos, barley rusks, Pastitsio, a pasta dish and Melomakarona, walnut biscuits.
Greek cooking is about passing down recipes that have been taught from grandmothers and mothers. Sharing these recipes with culinary enthusiasts is a joy and it also ensures the recipes are not forgotten. You will learn about the Mediterranean based diet and its health benefits.
