St Kilda Film Festival (SKFF) is proud to be part of the 2024 Midsumma Festival with an encore screening of LGBTQIA+ short films at the Victorian Pride Centre. 

The one-off SKFF Pride Showcase session on 7 February will feature a fantastic selection of short films from SKFF’s sold-out Pride Without Prejudice sessions held over the past three years. 

Beautiful cinematic lines, moving relationships, avant-garde commentary, inspirational personal documentary and raucous comedy are all part of the journey skilfully crafted by LGBTQIA+ filmmakers. 

The SKFF event builds on Port Phillip Council’s proud history as a major sponsor of the Midsumma Pride March. 

“We have supported the Pride March from the very beginning and can’t wait for Fitzroy Street to again become a sea of colour when marchers set out on 4 February,” Mayor Heather Cunsolo said. 

“We couldn’t be happier that the 40th anniversary of our St Kilda Film Festival in 2024 will include this inclusive and inspiring short film showcase just a few days later,” she said. 

SKFF Pride Showcase films include: 

Fearless: Jazmin Theodora (dir. Nicole Sullivan) 

Jazmin is a psychic and tarot card reader. All her life she has tried to stay true to herself, paying no mind to those who wanted to tear her down. At 83, she plays an active part in her community, and her psychic abilities attract people from all around Australia. 

Tuī Ná (dir. William Duan) 

A 17-year-old boy struggles to reconcile his burgeoning LGBTQIA+ identity with his filial duties and the expectations of his Chinese immigrant mother. 

Are You Still Watching? (dir. Tali Polichtuk) 

Forced into near-isolation during Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdown, Jamie keeps themselves entertained bingeing on queer film and TV. What begins as mere escapism turns sensual when they start having sexual delusions involving their favourite LGBTQIA+ characters. 

The St Kilda Film Festival Pride Showcase is at the Victorian Pride Centre’s theatrette from 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm on Wednesday 7 February.
